10 Summer Activities to Keep your Family Busy

Image
Well it's hard to believe but SUMMER is here! The end of this school year was really weird... It still feels a little incomplete as you weren't able to have your typical celebrations that you normally would with your class and you weren't able to give your kids a proper good bye. But that will not stop us from having a good summer. COVID - 19 may have added some restrictions on what we can and cannot do, so I have come up with 10 ideas of things that we are able to do while also adhering to social distancing guidelines. 1. Walk, bike, hike, etc. We have a walking path that is about 8 km down the path and back to our house. My oldest son loves to ride his bike now that he is able to and is always wanting to join me on my morning adventures. My youngest also loves to come along for the ride, as he is in the stroller and gets to snack along the way. Whether you have a walking path or not, getting out and enjoying the be

Wow! I can't believe we are at the last week of school. This is always such an exciting time when in school for both staff and students. The excitement of summer is upon us and well... Report Cards are done and we can all have a little fun celebrating a great school year together. I really am going to miss this week with my kids as this is always a fun time to celebrate a successful school year. This is one reason why I will be planning some fun and special activities for us to do this week as I want my sons to be able to celebrate a successful in school and home school year! We had a lot of fun learning about different African animals. This week we will play it a little more loosely and I will let my son choose what he wants to learn about each morning. He will love this as some mornings he is already trying to switch up what we are learning about lol.                           My youngest son has really kept me on my toes this

Last week we had a lot of fun learning about some of the different Big wild Cats that there are. This week my son would like to learn about other African animals so we are heading off on an at home Safari for the week. Next week is the last week of school/home school so I will be planning some fun activities for us to do as well. I have a tie dye kit coming for one of our activities!                                      This week felt busy! I'm thinking it must have been because of the rainy weather and trying to fit outside time in when it was warmer or the rain stopped as well as balancing and juggling home school/ work school. But we are down to the last two weeks of school and I know it is important to have fun with my at home teaching as well as my home school teaching.  Garden update: Our garden seems to have survived the frost and other cold days/nights we recently had. I'm hoping we have seen the end of the cold nights as I am getting tired of tucking my plants in for t

Baked Crispy Chicken Wings

These chicken wings get so crispy its like they're fried! They're pretty simple to make it just has a few extra steps to help them get that crispy skin. My son loves this recipe so much that he wanted them for his birthday dinner... with his usual pizza of course lol. I felt like that was a lot of food for one meal and no veggies didn't appeal to me. So, we made a compromise and I made with wings with a veggie tray (veggies made by my mother in law) for lunch and then homemade pizza and a salad (salad made by my mother) for dinner. It was a great day of eating food and a little celebration for my sons 5th birthday during a time when things a a little less normal.  One of the unique features of this recipe is that the wings are boiled in salty water before baking them. This helps to boil out some of the excess fat that would normally sit in the pan and leaving the wings a little soggy. Once you've boiled the wings for 8 - 10 minutes (depending on how many you&#

June 8 - 12 COVID - 19 School Closure

Last week we learnt a lot about snakes and I feel like I appreciate them a little more. My son has really started to like the Wild Kratt videos so I will try to incorporate one of those cartoons on days that I can. This week he wants to learn about big fast wild Cats. So off we go to learn about Big Wild Cats!! I have noticed that with the nicer weather we have been less motivated to do our school work so I am going to tone it down a little. He is still getting work form his teachers so I will be posting less Math and STEM activities as he does those with his class. I will continue with reading and writing as these are the subjects he struggles with the most and I would like to keep up the work we have started. We got another Fun Food Friday package and the boys loved it! We made apple cookies and they were a huge hit! We really appreciate all the hard work that the community partners are doing to ensure the kids are still having fun at home. It definitely hel
